This is the Soul Nebula. It is located about 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Cassiopeia. Technically, it is simply a cluster of stars surrounded by a cloud of dust and gas, but as you can see, visually it is so much more! What a start to the day this morning, is it raining? Is it snowing? Is the sun in, or out? I decided to check out one of my favorite livestreams to see what the weather is doing in beautiful Lake Placid, and it did not disappoint! First it was snowing, then just raining, and now - at least as I post this - a beautiful sun rise is battling it out with storm clouds. Who knows what it will look like as you read this, which is one of the best things about livestreams - you never know what you will see! What I do know is that this livestream is always so relaxing, with the meeting of water and mountains beneath a gorgeous Adirondack sky. Take a look, you'll see. This livestream started streaming on Feb 1, 2019. It is sponsored by the Golden Arrow, a resort in Lake Placid, and it is used to raise awareness and funds for the protection of Mirrow Lake. The following information accompanies the video: "The webcam powering this livestream is being used to record and archive high resolution images of Mirror Lake every minute. These images will be used to help maintain the ice record for the lake, one of the longest lake ice records in the country. The images will also be available to other researchers to monitor changes in the arrival of loons, changes in snow fall, shifts in the timing of fall foliage, etc. This livestream provides all those that love Mirror Lake, near and far, to have a constant connection to this beautiful waterbody. " So beautiful and super interesting too! A doodler? I know some of you are cracking up out there, but you know what I mean....a doodler is someone who can't help but doodle! Anytime they are preoccupied, or killing time, they find themselves picking up a pen or pencil and drawing aimlessly, and absent-mindedly, almost anywhere! I am a doodler, and I will get off the phone and look down and realized that I have drawn all over the pizza box LOL!!
So the good news for doodlers like us is that Mo Willems has been offering free virtual doodle lessons daily at 1pm on his YouTube channel. You remember who Mo Willems is, right? The author of that zany Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus book, and many others, that you all loved when you were little? Well he is an amazing, super creative human, and this kind offering from him has really taken off! People of all ages, and from all over the world, have started watching him and joining in making their own doodles. Basically, his show has become must-see viewing for people all over this planet! Join in the fun, check it out now! Why not make an entire city out of cardboard? Paris? Boston? London? New York? That would be my choice, trying to replicate the Big Apple. Or build your very own, unique city. Jemma Westing, an award-winning book designer and paper engineer - now that sounds like a cool job! - shared the following idea at the World Maker Faire Bay Area 2017. It is from her inspiring book Out of the Box, which we have in the library. Make sure to use the zoom tool at the bottom if you need to see better, and if you make one send me pics please! Happy Star Wars Day! That's right, today is the one day a year where people throughout the world celebrate their love for all things Star Wars. I found some fun crafts and activities for you to do in honor of the day - check them out below! |
