I miss you, so I made you a song. It's not the best song, but it's mine and I like it. I used the Chrome Music Lab Song Maker to make it, which is an amazingly fun and creative software that had slipped my mind until Mrs.Soper mentioned it on her FA Library Blog. Here's the song:I like it best when I have it set on woodwind, but feel free to change it however you'd like. Or make your own. And while you're at it, why not make a Kadinsky or a Spectogram as well? And, if for some reason you have trouble using it - the page opens but is just a blank, white screen - that is just the adblocker blocking too much, click here for instructions on how to fix that.I was surfing around, looking for fun maker projects using recycled objects, and I found a website that is just full of ways to make puppets from everyday items that are no longer in use. I found a great idea for how to use up a bunch of old dusty paper cups I brought home from the library yesterday. Can you guess how I am going to use them? The American Library Association - a group of folks who help librarians like me do our job - has put together this FREE book of coloring pages and writing prompts for you! Use it to help get through this weird, and definitely not normal, time. I really like to color, and the coloring pages are great, but it's the writing prompts that have me excited. One I really like is "Open a book to the last page. Find the last line and make it the first line of your writing today." Love that! That would be crazy interesting, and even a bit hard. Another good prompt is "Write a humorous list of all the things you were supposed to do today that you are NOT going to do, and why." Bahahahahaha! Too funny!
Enough being outside for a bit - let's sharpen our minds by checking out some amazing artifacts and learning some cool facts with a visually stunning tool, The Museum of the World! When you first enter the museum it takes a few seconds to load, which is okay, just sit back and watch the beautiful display come into focus. Once the timeline pops up go ahead and jump in, scrolling up and down through time, continents, and cultures. WOW, just wow.
Good Morning! Yesterday I challenged you to get outside and get your hands in the dirt - did you? I did! I got a good start on getting my herbs and peppers in their pots. Take a look:Interested in doing the same? Check out the sites below for some tips on how to get started:I don't know if you've seen the weather forecast, but they are calling for some truly glorious weather. Even though I realize that there is still a risk of frost, I'm going to take a chance and get some of my plants outside later. To get myself in the mood for gardening - and hopefully you too! - I am watching spring tours of botanical gardens in Virginia, Missouri, and New York - take a look, and then get outside!I just had so much fun interacting with an algorithm to create my first ever poemportrait !This interactive experience was created by artist and designer Es Devlin. How it works is that everyone in the world is invited to donate a word to the poem. The poem is being generated by an algorithm trained on 20 million words of 19th century poetry. Each word you add is then combined with words that have been added by others, and the words from poets who lived a few centuries ago - I love that part! The word I donated was "nebula" and it was so pleasing to see how the algorithm added it to the poem. And then, and this part really surprised me and made me so happy, the program took my picture and made my very own unique-to-me poemportrait! And you can do it over and over. As Es Devlin says, it is almost like a fortune cookie - so true!!Raise your voice! Today is #StudentVoiceDay, a celebration of voices around the world! For #StudentVoiceDay 2022, record yourself thanking someone who has recently helped you and made a difference in your life. This could be a brother or sister, a parent or grandparent, your neighbor, your teacher, an essential worker - anyone really. Make sure to tell them how they helped you and how their help made a difference in your life. Then, for added impact send it that person - it will really make their day!
